THE CLIENT
Stone Lodge School, part of Endeavour MAT, continues to invest in upgrading high-traffic teaching and circulation spaces. This refurbishment formed part of their broader estate improvement strategy to enhance safety, durability, and the student experience across the building.
-
Ash Technical Services were appointed to deliver a full flooring and decoration refurbishment across three floors of Stone Lodge School during the 2025 summer holiday period. The project included significant upgrades to corridors, stairwells and circulation spaces, with all works completed in a fixed five-week programme to ensure the school was fully operational for the start of term.
-
The primary challenge was delivering a full multi-floor refurbishment - spanning corridors, stairwells and circulation routes - within a tight five-week summer holiday period. The works, carried out included:
Extensive flooring upgrades across ground-floor corridors and staircases, including new non-slip vinyl and contrasting wayfinding strips.
Full redecoration of all corridor and stairwell walls and ceilings across the ground, first and second floors.
Replacement of stair nosings, installation of new entrance matting, and making-good throughout.
Subfloor preparation, surface repairs, protective screening, and coordinated access management during the works.
Although the building was unoccupied, the scale of the footprint and the number of sequential tasks required tight sequencing, rapid mobilisation and continuous progress to ensure all areas were complete, cured, cleaned, and ready before the return of students and staff.
-
To ensure the programme was met without compromise, Ash implemented a structured, multi-phase delivery model:
Zoned sequencing: corridors first, then stair cores, then final finishing
Early subfloor prep and inspection to avoid delays
Additional labour during peak phases to maintain momentum
Front-loaded procurement of vinyl, nosings, adhesives and paint
Clear communication with the site manager regarding access, daily progress and sequencing
Continuous quality control checks to ensure uniformity across all floors
Staircase nosings installed in the final phase to maintain safe access throughout
Deep clean and independent sign-off before handover
This ensured every area progressed on time and to specification.
-
The refurbishment was delivered on time within the five-week summer holiday, with all spaces fully completed, cleaned and handed over before students returned.
The school now benefits from:
Bright, modern circulation areas
Durable, non-slip flooring designed for heavy daily footfall
Improved safety via contrasting strips and new stair nosings
Clean, consistent finishes across all three floors
Refreshened, professional teaching environments
Spaces that are easier to maintain and will perform for years to come
This project showcases Ash Technical Services’ capability to deliver fast-track, multi-floor refurbishments to a high standard under tight summer programme constraints.
