East Surrey College - T-LEVEL HEALTH ROOM CONVERSION

Ash was appointed to design & build an existing classroom into a purpose-built T-Level Health teaching facility.

Key features included:

• Specialist M&E provisions to replicate a clinical environment

• Medical grade finishes and hard-wearing, hygienic materials

• Practical training areas, including space for hospital beds and equipment

• Flexible teaching zones to support both theory and hands-on activities

The new space supports the college’s growing Health curriculum and aligns with T-Level standards.

The conversion required:

• Significant reworking of M&E services, including power, lighting, data, and ventilation

• Installation of clinical style finishes suitable for practical health education

• Detailed coordination with curriculum staff to ensure layouts met teaching needs

• Maintaining strict programme timelines during the summer period

• Working in an area surrounded by other departments that are still partly operational

Ensuring compliance with educational and health-training standards was essential throughout.

We developed a clear design and sequencing plan, ensuring all specialist requirements were captured early.

Our delivery approach included:

• Coordinating mechanical, electrical and flooring trades to maintain a clean workflow

• Prioritising installation of medical grade finishes and protective wall coverings

• Ensuring data, power and ventilation were completed first to maintain programme certainty

• Weekly walk-arounds with the Estates team and the college to ensure alignment with curriculum expectations

The T-Level Health Room was delivered on time and provides:

• A realistic clinical environment for hands-on learning

• Purpose-built teaching zones supporting both practical and theory sessions

• Durable, hygienic finishes designed for intensive daily use
