East Surrey College - ROOF TERRACE Refurbishment

Ash Technical Services were appointed to rejuvenate an underused outdoor terrace into a welcoming staff wellbeing space. Working alongside Better Living Landscapes, we delivered:

• A refreshed, modern outdoor area designed for relaxation

• Durable new finishes and landscaping elements

• Seating zones and improved access routes

• A functional, attractive space for staff to use throughout the year

Transforming an exposed external terrace required:

• Careful consideration of weathered surfaces and failing materials

• Installing durable outdoor finishes with long-term resilience

• Coordinating works around live areas below

• Managing rooftop access, safety controls and material lifts

• Delivering all works within the compressed summer timetable

We took a collaborative approach with the college and Better Living Landscapes.

Key steps included:

• Early inspection of all existing substrates and waterproofing

• Planned access routes and lifting arrangements for rooftop materials

• Sequencing landscaping and finishing works to avoid damage to completed areas

• Clear communication with Estates regarding noise, access and protection of areas beneath

The completed roof terrace now provides:

• A calm and welcoming breakout space for staff

• Modern, durable finishes suitable for year-round use

• A significant uplift in wellbeing provision

• A transformed area that had previously been underutilised

Delivered on time and with minimal disruption to college operations, the terrace is now a valued space for staff to relax and recharge.
